Macao Beach

Today, our neighbors, who have a car, took us to a beautiful beach about a twenty minute drive from here called Macao Beach.  As we crested this hill in the road we got our first view of the bay.
This beach is what I think of when someone says Dominican Republic.  The sand is soft but firm to walk on and the water is turquoise up close and deep blue in the distance.  On one end of the beach were cliffs while the other end went on forever.

The rode we came in on was a typical beach road of sand with deep ruts.  Along the road were these "huts" that were actually the beach restaurants.
We settled on the end of the beach by the cliffs--the waves were not so strong here--and it appeared this is where the fishermen came in with their catch of the day.
Of course there were a few sales men.  This guy, as if you can't tell, was selling flip flops.

Close by was this "restaurant" that looked to be very popular.
We checked it out and found they had large coolers full of Mahi Mahi and Red Snapper.
In addition to cooking the fish in the kitchen, they were cooking camarones (shrimp), lobster, a rice dish, as well as some other things we didn't really recognize.

They had lots of good seating.
And, of course, a full bar.
This beach also has a reputation for "Dune Buggies".  Quite a group came through while we were there.

IT WAS A GREAT DAY IN A BEAUTFUL SPOT!!!
