The Beach

Gail and I walk the beach every morning and usually spend the afternoon in a beach chair.  If you buy a couple beers for $4 each you can use the chairs all day.   There are chairs everywhere but many of them are reserved for guests of the specific hotels.
 
I am not sure how long the beach is but I stood in approximately the middle and took a picture in each direction using the telephoto on the camera.
As with every beach we have ever been to, there are vendors trying to sell you souvenirs.
It is not too bad here however because there are souvenir shops set up along the beach front.
When you get to this spot on the beach you want to make sure you walk fast and do not make eye contact with anyone. 
At one spot someone has a bunch of conch shells set up to sell anyone interested.
There are several places along the beach where you can see painted murals.
 
There are also several playground areas for the kids.
There is always a lot of activity and a lot of people.
Some people come to the beach for a sun tan others will do any thing for a little shade.
 
It is always interesting.

It is so nice to have a wife like Gail.  Her heritage says everything always has to be clean and she has the energy and mentality to make it so.  When we arrived at our condo, she had to make sure the kitchen was hospital clean.   She also want to make sure we keep everything clean and "unused".  So she covers the couch with a sheet so it doesn't get us dirty and we don't get it dirty. They tell us the water here is much better than it used to be but suggest we still do not drink it.  The condo has a water dispenser and it only costs $2 for a five gallon jug and they deliver it--not too bad.  However, we have our own purifier that we make water for ice cubes (lots of those), coffee, brushing teeth, etc.         This picture is our laundry room.  We have a cloths washer but dry the cloths on the cloths line.  Speaking of water, this is our water heater.   There is a switch on the wall to turn it on and off.  We only turn it on when

Day 1

Yesterday when we finally arrived in Bavaro, Dominican Republic we decided we needed to get some basic groceries.  We found the main drag and walked to a mini market.  We got some milk and eggs and a couple other small items and then ran into a guy with a truck load of fruit.  We got some bananas, grapefruit and avacados.  On our way home it started to rain and rained for about 30 minutes--just enough to flood all of the streets. This morning our first order of business was to find the beach,  It is several blocks but not really far.  Many of the sidewalks are very narrow as you can see.      We got to the beach about 9:00 and the first thing we saw was a guy getting a massage.  What a great way to start you day.    The beach is beautiful--much more than expected.  There is a little sea grass but the sand is soft and fluffy.  It does not bother Gail's knee especially as long as we stay below the water line.   There are designated areas where boats ca

Getting Ready To Go Home

We leave to come home in a couple days so I thought I would take a last opportunity to cover some of the miscellaneous things I have not yet posted. It is amazing how many nationalities we have encountered here--lots of people from Russia, French, of course, but you're not always sure if they are French or Canadian.  Above us are people from Argentina, Canadians are everywhere, Serbia, Lebanon, Italian, Asian, and more.  One of the nicest families we have met is from Romania.  We are now friends on Facebook-Adrian, Olivia, and Philip. Dominican Republic is a third world country, whatever that is, and more than anywhere else we have been, they have not been exposed to the concept of not littering.   Everywhere, on every street, there is plastic and styrofoam just thrown everywhere.  I know I am not supposed to use a word over and over but the only word that works is "everywhere".  The good thing is that among all of this trash there is still the beauty of fl
