Day 1

Yesterday when we finally arrived in Bavaro, Dominican Republic we decided we needed to get some basic groceries.  We found the main drag and walked to a mini market.  We got some milk and eggs and a couple other small items and then ran into a guy with a truck load of fruit.  We got some bananas, grapefruit and avacados.  On our way home it started to rain and rained for about 30 minutes--just enough to flood all of the streets.
This morning our first order of business was to find the beach,  It is several blocks but not really far.  Many of the sidewalks are very narrow as you can see.

We got to the beach about 9:00 and the first thing we saw was a guy getting a massage.  What a great way to start you day.

The beach is beautiful--much more than expected.  There is a little sea grass but the sand is soft and fluffy.  It does not bother Gail's knee especially as long as we stay below the water line.   There are designated areas where boats can not beach--lots of fishing and touristy boats like for parasailing and skido type boats.  One area is blocked off by huge manmade boulders:

There was also evidence that there was a lot of fishing.  I believe these are lobster cages.  Can't wait to try some of the local fish.

The beach is lined with condos and lounge chairs.  It was amazing to see so many people on the beach the first thing on a Thursday morning.

Some of the condos are modern and white but many are very colorful.

We met our neighbors who are from Van Couver British Columbia and own two condos here.  They told us that if you buy a beer of something you can sit in the chairs all day with no charge.  Some of the areas with chairs were pretty ritzy though and you probably had to buy more than a beer for these.

We stopped and sat in the chairs in several places and nobody chased us off so I think I know what we will be doing tomorrow.
